Macau PLOPS signed a donation memorandum with the representative of Mozambique’s Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macau

Macau PLOPS have donated the large water purification systems to 4 Portuguese-Speaking African Countries and already completed installations at 3 countries early in the year. The systems have been in operation for over 6 months and everything is running smoothly. Mozambique will become the latest country to receive 2 systems later this year. It is estimated to arrive in early September and will try to complete installation before October to provide high quality clean and safe water to the people of Mozambique.

Macau PLOPS Investment and Promotion Company Limited committed to donating 8 water purification systems and pipework materials worth a total of USD 250,000 to Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau, Sao Tome and Principe, and Mozambique in July 2018. On 25th October, a simple but grand ceremony was held to commemorate the shipment of these systems at Zhuhai Zhijian Waters Investment Company’s manufacturing site at Panyu, Guangdong.

Three representatives of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum for Trade between African Portuguese-Speaking Countries and China (Macau) attended the ceremony and oversaw the shipment. Chairman of Macau PLOPS Mr. Bret, Chi-Shing Yeung said the original intention for these donations were to fulfill the promotion of Macau as the platform serving for trade and cooperation between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries, securing the long-serving friendship between China and these countries, answering to the needs of accessing clean and safe drinking water from the locals.

Mr. Pang Haohui, chairman of Zhuhai Zhijian Waters Investment Company expressed, to be selected as a provider of the water purification systems developed by the company to many countries in Africa reflects the fact that the systems have received international recognition. At the same time, the company uses high-quality water equipment as a response to the Central Government’s promotion of the “One Belt, One Road” strategic plan. These systems will help bring safe and healthy drinking water to African people. After the installations are completed, the company will continue to provide after-sales service to ensure the long-term operations of the systems in Africa.

Dr. Nuno Miguel Melo Furtado, representative of Cape Verde of Forum (Macau) expressed his gratitude for this generous donation by a Macau enterprise and wishes more Chinese and Macau enterprises will invest and explore business opportunities in Cape Verde, strengthening cooperations between the two countries. Meanwhile, the two donated systems have been installed at the Central Hospital of the Capital, and the Central Hospital in San Vincente to provide free water to the locals. Moreover, Mr. Malam Becker Camará, representative of Guinea Bissau of Forum (Macau) assured that the locals will be greatly benefitted by this donation project due to the fact that diseases and illnesses related to dirty drink water are very common and serious in Guinea Bissau. He also believes that the long term impact and development between China and the people of Africa will be longer and stronger than the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.

The then-appointed representative of San Tome and Principe Dr. Gualter da Vera Cruz were very happy that the Macau enterprise realized its promise and created an important start for Chinese and Macau companies to fulfill investments into the country. Meanwhile, he hopes to attract more enterprises to visit San Tome and explore business opportunities and development. He thanked the Macau enterprise and equipment company for the effort in fulfilling the donation.

According to Mr. Lao Kam Chio, the two systems equipment will arrive at the capital of Mozambique, Maputo in mid-September. As it was originally planned, the systems will be installed at two hospitals to provide free water to the patients, their families, and all medical staff. At the same time, Mr. Lao emphasized that this donation was consistent with the previous donations to the other three African countries. They were donated in the name of Macau SAR enterprises to support the Portuguese-Speaking countries to improve the quality of local drinking water and to enhance the safety of their drinking water in order to reduce the risks of illness and death among local children and women as a result of drinking contaminated water.
